Visit of New Zealand’s UNICEF Children’s Climate Forum

Today, Charles Chauvel, with fellow Labour List MP Moana Mackey, hosted a visit from UNICEF’s New Zealand delegation to the UNICEF Children’s Climate Forum, held in conjunction with the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) late last year in Copenhagen.
Delegation members Phoebe Hunt and Abby Ward (both 17) joined UNICEF NZ Advocacy Manager Vicki Soanes as they visited Charles, who is Labour’s Climate Change and Energy Spokesperson.
The meeting was a chance for the delegates to share their thoughts about the Forum, and about future policy issues with Charles , who also attended COP15.
Phoebe, from Western Heights High School in Rotorua, and Abby, of Nayland College, Moutere, were part of New Zealand's five person delegation to the Children’s Climate Forum.
UNICEF NZ, on whose board Charles once served, issued a nationwide call-out to Kiwis between 14 and 17yrs old to write in and answer seven questions about climate change and why environmental issues are important to them. The applicants were short listed and interviewed for the five slots on the basis of their writing.
