Power and Electricity World New Zealand 2010

Charles Chauvel, Labour List MP based in the Ohariu electorate and Labour Party Spokesperson for Climate Change and Energy, spoke at the 2010 Power and Electricity World New Zealand conference, held in Auckland today.

Chauvel was asked to speak when the scheduled speaker, the Minister of Energy, withdrew from the event.

Chauvel critiqued the government's lack of a plan for the energy sector, and went on to signal Labour's direction in energy policy, as well as restating a number of Labour commitments in the energy area, including a pledge not to mine National Parks, achieving affordable electricity from overwhelmingly renewable sources, while maintaining energy security.

A transcript of the speech is available.
