Switch off for Earth Hour 2010
Labour’s energy and climate change spokesperson Charles Chauvel joined his fellow Labour MPs today to promote this weeks Earth Hour 2010.
In 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support for action on climate change by turning off their lights for one hour.
What started in 2007 has now spread to involve over 4000 cities in 88 countries, with global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum draped in darkness.
Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour 2010 takes place on Saturday 27 March at 8.30pm (local time)
By switching off your lights, you can show your support to encourage a global binding agreement on reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, as well as encouraging individual citizens to find ways to lower their impact on climate change.
More information about the Earth Hour campaign is available on the official global website.
