Central Region Komiti Pasifika Fono

On July 24 Charles attended the Central Region Komiti Pasifika Fono, a meeting of Pacific Island members of the Service and Food Workers Union. Charles is a member of the union, and was its legal officer in Auckland in the late 1980s.

Two key items were discussed at this fono: this year’s General Election; and the upcoming Biennial Regional Fono. Charles, as convenor of Labour’s Pacific Caucus, and new Pacific MP Sua William Sio, accompanied by Labour’s Maungakiekie candidate Carol Beaumont, spoke to union members about issues affecting the Pacific Island community and how these could be addressed.
