UN Role for Charles Chauvel

Charles Chauvel, Labour List MP based in the Ohariu electorate, was appointed today as a Commissioner to the Global Commission on HIV and the Law.

The Commission has been established to provide global leadership on HIV related legal rights and legal issues.

According to the United Nations the Global Commission on HIV and the Law was established “to develop actionable, evidence informed and human rights-based recommendations supporting national legal environments that enable effective HIV responses and realize human rights of people living with HIV and those most vulnerable to HIV”.

Chauvel, who is also the Labour Party’s Associate Spokesperson for Justice, is a former Chairperson of the New Zealand AIDS Foundation, a former member of the Board of the New Zealand Public Health Commission, and is currently a board member of the Pacific Friends of the Global Fund Against AIDS, TB and Malaria.
