Chauvel and Goff in Ohariu

Labour List MP based in the Ohariu electorate Charles Chauvel hosted Opposition Leader Phil Goff on a visit to the Ohariu electorate on Thursday 22nd July.

Goff and Chauvel visited Paparangi Kindergarten to talk to staff about the proposed budget cuts to Early Childhood Education providers announced by the National-ACT-Maori-Peter Dunne Government earlier this year. Also present was Labour’s Early Childhood Education Spokesperson, Sue Moroney.

They then visited Maungaraki School, who after a formal welcome by the school were briefed by students of the school’s Enviroteam, which forms part of Maungaraki School’s Enviroschools programme, as well as a tour of the school.

The tour also included a visit to Khandallah School, to meet with Principal and a representative of the Board of Trustees discussed how implementation of the Government’s National Standards was affecting their school, as well as a visit with Mana MP Luamanuvao Winnie Laban to the home of Enid Ford. Enid is 92 years old and has had her home help care cut. Her son, Peter has fought for her mother to have her hours restored.

Footage of the Ford visit is available here, and photos from the day are on the photo page.

Chauvel is pictured above with Goff and Maungaraki School Principal Carmen Jennings.
