Power to the Puppies!
Charles was among those volunteers, who collected outside The Warehouse in Johnsonville, in the centre of the Ohariu-Belmont area. He said, “the Red Puppy Appeal is about giving power to the puppies so, as guide dogs, they can empower blind and vision-impaired New Zealanders.” In 2007, Charles helped launch the appeal with the Minister for Disability Issues, the Hon Ruth Dyson.
In 2007 the government contributed just over $7 million to the RNZFB, and this year’s appeal has raised an incredible $1 million. It takes $22,000 to breed, raise and train just one guide dog.
The RNZFB is New Zealand's primary provider of vision-related habilitation and rehabilitation services. For more information please visit their website: www.rnzfb.org.nz
