Wairarapa Pacific Festival

This year Masterton’s Queen Elizabeth Park was host to the first-ever Pacific festival to be held in the Wairarapa region.

The festival, which was hosted by the Wairarapa District Health Board, was officially opened by Charles, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Hon. Luamanuavao Winnie Laban MP, Minister for Pacific Island Affairs.

The festival drew in a crowd of around 2,000 people, demonstrating the interest of the region’s people in celebrating pacific culture.

Festivities included the comedy duo the ‘laughing Samoans’, who had the crowd in stitches, and the Cook Island drummers, who had everyone dancing when they took to the stage. These activities complimented and reinforced the health messages delivered by the festival.
