Auckland Pasifika Festival
Coming from a Pacific Island background, Charles was proud to attend the Auckland Pasifika Festival this March.
The Pacific Island community represents a major part of the culture and identity of New Zealand and this is especially true in Auckland which is home to the world’s biggest Pacific population.
Held every year, the Pasifika festival is the largest of its type in the world. It is an important celebration of the art, culture, and lifestyle of the Pacific Island Communities living in Auckland.
At the festival, ten Pacific Islands showcased their cultures, offering insight into their cultural practices and ceremonies, music and performance, and traditional food, arts and crafts.
Charles is pictured with the PM and Labour MPs at his home base – the Tahitian Pavilion, in its 2nd year of operation at Pasifika in 2008. Charles was proud to see that Labour fielded its usual strong team of MPs at the event, including Darien Fenton, Dr Ashraf Choudhary, Hon Phil Goff, Hon Judith Tizard, Hon Vui Mark Gosche and Hon Luamanuavao Winnie Laban.
