The Great Auckland Central Hero Debate 2008

The Hero Festival, held every February in Auckland, celebrates the gay community's struggle against HIV/AIDS. A feature of recent years' festivals has been the Great Auckland Central Hero Debate, which raises funds for both the Cartier Bereavement Trust and for Auckland Central's gay-friendly MP the Hon Judith Tizard.

This year's debate featured a moot quoting a character from the Samuel Richardson novel Clarissa: "That love will draw an elephant through a keyhole". The affirmative team were the Hon Lianne Dalziel MP, Charles, and the Hon Maryan Street MP. The negative team were Russell Brown, Moana Mackey and Steven Gray.

Charles is pictured with teammates Lianne and Maryan during the debate.
