Pasifika in Wellington City
The Festival was held at the encouragement of the Wellington City Pacific Advisory Group, and was opened with speeches by the Mayor, the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and the Convenor of the City's Advisory Group, Ida Faiumu-Isa'ako.
Frank Kitts Park held marquees hosted by the main ethnic groups representing the Pacific nations who make up Wellington City's 9000 or so Pacific peoples. The marquees sold traditional food and crafts, while singing, dancing and entertainment featured on the main stage.
It is hoped that the Festival will become an annual event.
